The Great Ace Attorney Not Coming To The West, Confirms Capcom

September 2, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

This comes fresh off the heels of confirmation Capcom would be localizing Ace Attorney 6.

Bad news for Ace Attorney fans; it seems Capcom has confirmed that The Great Ace Attorney is not getting localized in the West.

Original Japanese name being Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken, The Great Ace Attorney was not a certainty to arrive to the West at all, but given the popularity of the series fans expected Capcom to make it work somehow. Confirmation that the game was not going to be localized comes from a representative of Capcom France.

That Capcom decided not to localize, however, is not necessarily a surprise. When they did the work of localizing the original Dai Gyakuten Saiban games into the Ace Attorney games, they changed a lot of the background and context of the game. The move from an unnamed modern Japanese city to Los Angeles led to the game diverging into a nearly completely different story, even if it used the same characters and had similar cases.

You heard Wright! Ace Attorney 6 (working title), announced in Japan today, is also in development for the west!

This news also comes fresh off the heels of the official Ace Attorney Twitter account confirming they would be localizing Ace Attorney 6. Truth be told, the fact that they rushed to confirm this, when they were mum on the topic of The Great Ace Attorney should have been a huge tell.

Based on the cumulative Famitsu review score of 35 out of 40 (9,9,9, and 8), it’s clear that the game is a classic, and the West will definitely be missing out. A Change.org petition has already launched last month to have it localized, but until it picks up steam, the chances it will happen are very slim.
