Mystery Ball: Rolling Forward in Full Force!

September 22, 2011

FRED has been dropped into an unusual, floating environment, with amnesia and a set of intense phobias

Mystery Ball, a new iOS game being released this fall, follows FRED, the unknowing subject of an experiment.  FRED has been dropped into an unusual, floating environment, with amnesia and a set of intense phobias. He must find his way around frenemies (bad guys he's had to label with sticky notes to remember), collect bravery points and safely get to each level's exit. Players set up the environment using doodads – tools like springs and magnets — that will help FRED complete the level. As he overcomes his fears, FRED grows more powerful.

Each level introduces completely new elements, doodads and frenemies. Since the flexible gameplay relies on individual strategy, there are zillions of ways to get out of each scrape.

Mystery Ball Developer David Howe created all the art and designed and coded the game himself. "I grew up doing art, because I liked art. I grew up doing programming, because I like programming," said Howe. "If you asked me to pick, I couldn’t."  It took Howe five months to build the game from idea to finished product. Mystery Ball is now in beta testing pending its release later this fall.

One of the best features? Mystery Ball will make use of iCloud save, which will enable players to save their game using iCloud and retrieve it on another device – no duplicate game purchase required, and you can pick up right where you left off.

Mystery Ball is a product of Red Nova Labs. Visit the Mystery Ball site for videos, screenshots, and to learn more about FRED, frenemies and doodads.
