UPDATE: The Snovel Knight amiibo was confirmed by Yacht Club Games at last night's Nindies@Night event at PAX Prime. Nintendo also released a video to along with the announcement, which you can view below.
Original Story: Shovel Knight, the character that quickly became an icon in Yacht Club Games’ repertoire, will be getting an amiibo figure of its own, according to U.K. retailer GAME and German retailer 4U2Play.
GAME was first to list the Shovel Knight amiibo on its website, tweeting out a picture of the product listing earlier today, before deleting said tweet. Not to fret, NeoGAF user JoeM86 managed to grab a screenshot, which you can view below, of the listing before GAME’s tweet was deleted.
The description points to the Shovel Knight amiibo being compatible with both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game, even allowing for the sharing of data through one Shovel Knight amiibo across both versions of the game.
Also of note is that the Shovel Knight amiibo will work in future games developed by Yacht Club Games. Whether this is specifically in relation to Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, a free update for all owners of Shovel Knight, or games developed by Yacht Club Games beyond that, remains to be seen.
The German listing on 4U2Play points to the amiibo providing additional features where the game’s co-op mode on Wii U is concerned. It also says that players will be able to customize the appearance of their Shovel Knight characters through the amiibo.
Yacht Club Games will be in attendance at Nintendo’s Nindies@Night event at PAX Prime tonight, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. PT. It’s possible that Nintendo and Yacht Club will use the opportunity to officially unveil the Shovel Knight amiibo.
