Turok And Turok 2 Returning To Hunt Dinosaurs On Modern PCs

August 27, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Night Dive Studios is promising enhanced graphics and more features, but no word if this will hit Nintendo platforms.

]Night Dive Studios has revealed they will be rereleasing Turok and Turok 2 to modern computers soon.

Turok’s origins were found in the comics, from as far back as 1954. The core concept of a pre-Colombian Native American living in a valley populated by dinosaurs was established even back then, and reimagined over and over by Gold Key, Valiant, Acclaim, Dark Horse and now Dynamite Entertainment.

The Turok video games were also made by Acclaim, and so they had a clean slate to work with. In Acclaim’s games, Turok was a title, and each name introduced a new warrior who took the mantle, starting with Tal’Set. In the games, Turok fought otherworldly threats, first the Campaigner, and in Turok 2, Oblivion.

Originally released on Nintendo 64, these games served as a third party highlight for the system, and lauded for introducing innovations such as open environments, joystick controls, and evolved graphics.

Developer Night Dive Studios, famous for reviving games like System Shock 2, Sid Meier's Colonization, and Darklands, promises their restoration will have enhanced graphics and other features.

I imagine some fans will be asking if Night Dive is planning for a Wii U rerelease of these games as well, but as it stands, we don’t even have a release date for PC. They did reveal the game is coming to Steam, the Humble Store, GOGcom, GamersGate, Green Man Gaming, and their own site.

Would you buy the Turok games today? Would you like to see more Turok games restored for current PCs? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
