Rumor: PlayStation Plus Premium Games Starting to Leak

April 28, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Three games revealed, over 300 to go.

With less than two months to go before the release of the new three-tiered PlayStation Plus service, players are taking to social media to discuss which classic games they hope to see added to the Premium library. The most pricey membership level will include a collection of classic PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, PSP, and PlayStation 3 games, though which games will appear remains a mystery. That is, until today when a few titles began to leak through the PlayStation Store.

Reddit user the_andshrew noticed that PlayStation has added meta-data including ID numbers, splash images, and more to the digital shop ahead of the updated PS Plus launch. Three games have been discovered so far. With over 300 games announced to be appearing, there’s hope that more will leak before too long.

Tekken 2 and Mr. Driller, both released for the original PlayStation console, and Ridge Racer 2 from the PSP have been found in the database.

Released for the PlayStation in 1996, Tekken 2 was a commercial and critical success, becoming one of the most successful titles during the year of its release. The puzzle action game Mr. Driller, released for PlayStation in 1999, has been described by many as a cross between Puyo Puyo and Dig Dug. Players control a character that must destroy colorful block formations in order to reach the bottom of a well.

The PSP arcade-style racing game Ridge Racer 2 is the 14th title in the Ridge Racer series. The game saw a release in Japan, Europe, and Australia in 2006, but a North American release was canceled.

Earlier this week, Sony announced that it would require certain developers to offer limited game trials only to Premium members. Trials will be required for games costing over $34, and these trials must be at least two hours in length. Developers will have three months after a game’s release date to release a timed trial, and this trial must be available for at least one year.
