Horizon: Zero Dawn’s RPG Elements Detailed

August 24, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Guerrilla Games has talked about the role-playing elements in Horizon.

Guerrilla Games' upcoming title Horizon: Zero Dawn will feature some RPG aspects. When it was first announced at E3 this year, the game's developers, who also worked on the Killzone series of games, revealed that players will be able to level up their character and customize her to a degree.

To find out exactly how customizable the character will be, GamesRadar spoke to the studio's co-founder and managing director Herman Hulst, who revealed that the game's role-playing aspects will be in-between Assassin's Creed and Skyrim.

"I guess you're wondering where we are on that spectrum of, on the one side more action-orientated games like Assassin's Creed, and on the other hand you have your Elder Scrolls and these kinds of series," Hulst said. "I think we're in-between. We have elements in both directions, and that probably puts us somewhere in between."

Hulst says that it's difficult to really explain how customizable characters will be without actually showing how it works, so they plan to do just that in the near future.

"Once we have something to show we'll talk about it in more detail," he said.

Horizon has an open-world environment with a full day and night cycle. Players will be able to explore locations that range from ruins of ancient technological civilizations to the wilderness.

It's out for the PS4 in 2016.
