Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was originally meant to release in December of this year, but was later delayed. Much to the joy of its director in James Wan who noted that the film had a lot of effects that needed doing and thus could get done properly with a few extra months. But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t details that can be revealed about the film! For at CinemaCon, Wan, and star Jason Momoa were able to talk about the film and all it’s going to do.
Momoa himself is very excited for the movie and all it offers to both him and fans:
“I have so much invested into it,” Momoa said. “I love this character and what he represents. We wanted to visit all these new different kingdoms and meet all these interesting, new, different characters.”
And of course, the return of Black Manta is going to bring some big things, including an uneasy alliance between Aquaman and his brother Orm:
“Black Manta now is at a different level,” Wan said. “He’s still a human being, but he’s now imbued with this magical, ancient power that ultimately needs Orm’s help to fight this evil that is taking over Black Manta.”
The producer of the movie noted that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is doing its best to not just build upon the original movie, but not repeat the same beats. Don’t forget, the original Aquaman movie did over $1.2 billion dollars at the global box office. So they’re trying to make sure they can match that success while also further building up the world of Aquaman and DC Comics as a whole.
Here’s the synopsis for the film, which will arrive on March 17th, 2023:
“When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.”
