Final Fantasy XIV Players Can Face Ban for Bad PvP Behavior

April 26, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Good vibes only in the PvP zone.

The recent 6.1 update for Final Fantasy XIV introduced a ton of new content, from much-anticipated story quests to job changes and new mounts and minions. Surprisingly, one of the most talked-about pieces of 6.1 has been Crystalline Conflict, a new 5v5 PvP mode.

The PvP content in the MMO has seen a sharp dropoff in recent years, with many players not even bothering to participate. Breathing new life into the mode is a great thing, but with more players comes more toxicity. Only a few weeks after launch, the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida posted some new rules on the game’s official website, along with a gentle plea for good sportsmanship.

“We are receiving an unprecedented number of reports concerning uncooperative/lethargic or taunting behavior during matches,” Yoshida said. “All PvP content, including Crystalline Conflict, is intended to be a battle/contest of skill between players. Participants must bring their best to the fight, and for this reason, uncooperative or lethargic behavior is prohibited.”

Yoshida then went on to remind players that using abusive or slanderous language in the in-game chat is prohibited in all PvP content.

The following examples of in-game behavior could get you banned or suspended, so don’t do them.

・Repeatedly using the Quick Chat phrase “Nice job!” during a disadvantageous situation
・Repeatedly using the Quick Chat phrase “Good match!” before the outcome of the match has even been decided
・Excessively repeating a particular Quick Chat phrase
・Persistently placing a negative target marker on another ally player
・Using and repeating an emote on top of a downed opponent
・Setting off fireworks on top of a downed opponent
・Using Tell or other methods to directly harass/criticize a player outside of a duty after a match has ended
・Slandering other players through means outside of the game, such as social media
*Adjusted the text in response to feedback.

The previous list isn’t an exhaustive one, but it’s pretty obvious what’s good conduct and what isn’t.

Players breaking the rules can result in a suspension lasting between 3 and 20 days. Repeated offenses can lead to a permanent ban.

Final Fantasy XIV is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The Final Fantasy series is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2022. Square Enix unveiled a special website to commemorate the occasion in March.

Fans of Final Fantasy XI will want to log into their FFXIV account between April 28 and May 18. The Maiden’s Rhapsody event will be offering some unique armor pieces based on the 2002 title.
