Windows 10 EULA Now Declares Microsoft Can Find And Deactivate Your Pirated Software

August 17, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Apparently, these changes were specifically intended to target any illegally pirated software and apps from Xbox Live and Windows Store.

Have you been using Windows 10? You might be testing it on a spare PC, or already switched over. If you are at least considering getting the OS, you need to read this.

Microsoft has made a change in their policies revealing that they have the capability to find and deactivate pirated software, of course, including video games.

This is the modified text from their EULA:

We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorised hardware peripheral devices.

Apparently, these changes were specifically intended to target any illegally pirated software and apps from Xbox Live and Windows Store.

In turn, this may or may not mean that Microsoft isn’t going after any other pirated software. After all, Microsoft has been caught using the OS to literally spy on their users, and disabling some settings will not stop this.

Of course, this is open to abuse. Mistakes in identifying pirated software could also mean calamities, if it affects programs everyone uses, such as Adobe PDF Reader, or basic behind the scenes stuff like Java and Flash.
