It is possible that the open-world technology used to power the world of the Just Cause games will be used for the open-world of Final Fantasy 15, according to chief creative officer of Avalanche Studios Cristofer Sundberg.
In a statement made to GameSpot Sundberg confirmed that Avalanche Studios and the Final Fantasy 15 team are discussing how the technology fromJust Cause can be used in FF15. The Just Cause 3 developer said that while he couldn’t go into specifics over the nature of the collaboration, Just Cause 3’s pedigree with open world games might be of use to the team working on Final Fantasy 15.
"I can confirm that we are in talks with the Final Fantasy XV team over a collaboration," he said to GameSpot. "Like [FFXV director Hajime] Tabata said in his interview [with IGN], these talks are in the early stages so we are not able to give much more detail at this point, but we're excited about the opportunity. Avalanche Studios has become synonymous with huge open worlds. Like most gamers, we are also fans of the Final Fantasy series. If there is a way that our technical expertise and extensive experience of open-world game design can be of some help to the Final Fantasy XV team, then we're certainly open to that. I look forward to further discussions with them."
Last week, Tabata revealed that he and his development team are looking to use another type of technology from the Just Cause series that powers the aerial controls and vertical gameplay of the open-world action game and that his team and Avalanche Studios are in talks about that, too.
“My personal goal is to implement airships that can fly around in full-scale,” Tabata said. “I’m not certain whether we’ll be able to make it on time for the retail release, but I think we should do even if it means releasing it after as a download.”
Final Fantasy 15 is expected to be released sometime in next year on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, while Just Cause 3 has a release date of Dec. 1, 2015 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
