Final Fantasy XV: New Screenshots Put The Spotlight On Game’s Locations

August 10, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It was an interesting, oddly frank decision to name Cuba as inspiration for Lestallum.

Square Enix has shared some new screens for Final Fantasy XV, putting the spotlight on the locations. We've shared each screenshot with Square Enix's official translation, as well as our own commentary, You can click each image below to see it full size.

Continent

The four continue their drive along the clear river, passing through the coniferous trees.

Should they go full speed straight toward their destination, or take time and explore the surroundings? It is up to players to choose.

As you can see, this is a simple pic of Noctis and the boys on their favorite ride. There does seem to be a lot of time to enjoy cruising through Lucis’ long, winding roads.

Ido

An underground dungeon with an eerie atmosphere.

For a long time, this dungeon has seen no traces of human activity.

But is there something else currently living here?

No clue here on what Ido could possibly be hiding, but if I were to bet on anything, it is probably the hiding place for one of the game’s Eidolons. It does seem like you will be seeking out the Eidolons at the very fringes of Lucis’ world.

Lestallum

Lestallum, a city positioned in the lands of Duscae.

Using Cuba as a motif for the design, the vibrant city is full of people and life.

A large building that stands out is the hotel. It’s probably a good place to rest and relieve some tiredness from the long trip.

It was an interesting, oddly frank decision to name Cuba as inspiration for Lestallum. Does Lestallum have medical tourism too? But this does mean interesting things for Lestallum’s architecture.

Cuba’s cities are filled with buildings and cars that date to before WWII. While many structures seem unkempt and little maintained through the decades, they remain in use, and maintain an odd beauty in this way.

It really does seem like the Final Fantasy team sought to recreate this anachronistic quality in Lestallum, making it a pretty interesting setting to look at.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and targeted for a 2016 release.
