EA DICE Explains Why Star Wars Battlefront Has No Single Player Campaign

August 5, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Here’s why Star Wars Battlefront has no single player campaign.

Star Wars Battlefront doesn't have a single-player campaign. Unlike the Battlefield series, which featured solo campaigns in recent years, the upcoming Star Wars-themed FPS will not have an offline story mode for players to go through.

Today, EA DICE explained why they decided against implementing a campaign. Speaking at Gamescom, senior producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir told GameSpot that the history of Battlefront is rooted in multiplayer and as such it is an aspect of the series that they wanted to bring with the upcoming game.

"As we concepted the game and thought about the legacy of the previous Battlefront games–they didn't really have campaigns, they've always been predominately a multiplayer franchise. That's what we wanted to do," she said. "We wanted to focus on the multiplayer."

The developer said that the focus from the very start of its development has been on multiplayer, and that having delivered great multiplayer experiences in the past, they wanted for it to be their focus.

That being said, Star Wars Battlefront will offer a Missions mode that you can play alone or with a friend. It's not exactly story-based, though.

The game comes out on November 17 for the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
