There was a time when Game of Thrones wasn’t just a series on HBO, it was THE series across ALL of television. The show, adapted from the books by George R.R. Martin, were something special. They were fantasy mixed with great characters, deep lore, an interwoven story that played out in various ways over the seasons, and yes, shocking deaths. Still sore about Ned to be honest with you. And now, the next “tale” of that realm is coming via the Prequel Series House of the Dragon.
This has been teased for literal years, and now, we know when the show is coming out, August 21st.
But, whether this show will be able to stand up to scrutiny given the ash still in people’s mouths given the Game of the Thrones finale remains to be seen. The cast and crew are promising a “different experience” but how much is true about that will only be known once the show arrives.
Here is the synopsis for the series:
“The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires-real and imagined-crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.”
So at the very least, we’re going to be getting new dynamics because the Targaryens are going to be a focus more, and that’s pretty cool. Let us know they let them “be a dragon”.
