Fast & Furious Crossroads Sales Cease After Poor Reception

March 29, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Too soon, Junior.

It looks like family wasn’t enough to save this franchise. Despite being released less than two years ago, Fast & Furious Crossroads is being pulled from sale as of next month. The decision was made by publisher Bandai Namco, with the announcement being posted to the game’s official website.

If you want the game for any reason, you have until April 29 at 10 PM EST to add it to your library. Those who have already purchased the game digitally won’t lose it after this date, and it will still be able to be downloaded in the future. Any DLCs purchased before April 29 will also still be available to use, and the game’s online modes will remain active. This only applies to new sales of the game.

The racing and action role-playing game Fast & Furious Crossroads was initially released on August 7, 2020 after a three months pandemic-related delay. Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, a subsidiary of the British developer Codemasters, the game was met with largely negative reviews. One particularly harsh review came from IGN, who dubbed the title as “short, shallow, and surprisingly simple, and it’s nothing less than a crashing disappointment in virtually every department.”

The game came in fourth on Metacritic’s worst-rated games of 2020 list.

Crossroads takes place in a number of locales around the world and features main characters from the Fast & Furious film franchise. The game’s storyline is entirely original, and players can choose from a number of souped-up cars. As you’d expect, the game largely focuses on racing, though some portions ask players to defeat enemies and avoid traps by using certain weapons equipped to their cars.

The game has seen three DLC packs released, introducing new cars, decals, and online customization items.

The first Fast & Furious film, The Fast and the Furious, was released in 2001. A tenth and eleventh film are planned to conclude the series and are tentatively scheduled to release in 2023 and 2024.
