Star Wars Battlefront Delays Unlikely, Says EA

July 30, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Star Wars Battlefront’s release is set in stone.

Electronic Arts will delay Star Wars Battlefront if it is necessary to do so, but that is unlikely to happen.

In an interview today, EA CFO Peter Moore said that the company would have no problem delaying the game if any major issues were to crop up ahead of its release, but that the game itself is very much on track for its November 17 release on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

“Yes, because you can't ship it if it doesn't work or the quality level isn't right," Moore said. "You just bite the bullet. Trust me, shipping Battlefield: Hardline in March was not the easiest thing to do from a business perspective, but it was absolutely the right thing to do from a 'players first' perspective. We would have no compunction, no hesitation whatsoever, that if something was to go wrong with Star Wars Battlefront–if it wasn't right–we would just push it. But that's not going to happen."

EA has been known to delay their titles to polish them up for release. Last year, the publisher delayed both Dragon Age Inquisition and Battlefield Hardline by months.

In the same interview, Moore also talked about the superiority of video games as a storytelling medium.

"We can tell stories better than any direct movie, which is linear with passive engagement from the viewer. We take great pride in the fact that you are playing you Star Wars fantasy. When I got in this industry, yeah we were a little inferior to films and we felt that the game had to be built around the movie to succeed. That is not the case anymore and games should stand alone."

Earlier today, EA announced a new game mode for Star Wars Battlefront called Blast.
