Inafune’s Red Ash Secures Funding, Kickstarter Will Go To Stretch Goals

July 30, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It’s a strange turn for a project

In a shocking turn, Comcept has revealed that the latest Inafune helmed Kickstarter game, Red Ash: The Indelible Legend, will now be fully funded by a newly revealed publisher, Fuze.

Fuze Entertainment is described as a new Chinese digital entertainment company.Their funding guarantees the first eight hour part of Red Ash, called The KalKanon Incident, will be developed and published to Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. As for the Kickstarter funding, that money will be going towards stretch goals.

Red Ash is a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends with many of the developers and staff behind the Mega Man Legends games were signed up to help make this game. On the side, Red Ash also has an animation project being helmed by Studio 4℃. That Kickstarter has raised $111,369 of the $150,000 goal, but with only four days to go, it may or may not acquire funding.

Comcept and Keiji Inafune have faced harsh criticism in light of the pending release of Mighty No 9, and how it failed to meet many fan’s expectations, particularly when it comes to graphics.  With that in mind, it did seem that Red Ash’s Kickstarter was bound to fail, having raised $487,415 of its $800,000 goal. Many critics pointed out the poor handling of the marketing and promotion of the crowdfund.

With this move, Comcept may have set a bad precedent for crowdfunded games. Even if we assume the best of intentions from Comcept and Fuze, this is, of course, not what backers expected their money would be used for, and many observers have expressed confusion and dismayed with how it’s played out.

Really happy Red Ash is happening. Stunned and distressed by how poorly the campaign/PR is being managed.

Not sure what to make of this Red Ash news, but I sure am annoyed it happened like an hour after I published my demo commentary!
