Deus Ex Mankind Divided: Talk Your Way Out Of Boss Battles, Literally

July 28, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The outcome of every boss encounter affects what direction the game is going to take.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided will have remarkably flexible systems that will allow you to shape your experience as you wish. You won’t have to kill the bosses, of course, but you may not have to even fight them.

Narrative director Mary DeMarle explains that they deliberately planned out boss encounters to be the opposite of what fans experienced in Deus Ex Human Revolution. In that game, even though Eidos was able to add stealth solutions to the boss battles, they were not truly nonviolent. This is because the game design, including the story, required that all the bosses die.

And so, for Deus Ex Mankind Divided, you will be able to beat them in combat, you can use stealthy methods to eliminate them, and you can even enter in conversations with them to get around certain situations completely.

However, that’s not even the end of it, as DeMarle promises that the outcome of every boss encounter affects what direction the game is going to take moving forward. So it seems Deus Ex Human Revolution will have branching paths, possibly even alternate and hidden endings.

Are you looking forward to talking your way out of every boss battle in Deus Ex Mankind Divided? What approach do you hope Eidos took with these conversations? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided will be released in 2016 oin Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
