Splatoon’s August Update Adds New Modes, Weapons and Gear

July 27, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

A host of new content is coming to Splatoon.

A new update for Splatoon is set for release next week containing new modes, a higher level cap, and a ton of new gear. There will also be two new weapons added to the game. Approximately 40 new pieces of equippable items will be added into the game.

The higher level cap will raise the game's max level to 50 and Rank S and S+ in Ranked Battles.

The two new guns include the Splatling gatling gun and the Slosher bucket.

The update is set for release on August 6 and includes new new matchmaking modes called Squad Battle and Private Battle.

In Squad Battle, players can participate in Ranked Battle rulesets with their friends instead of having to team up with random players. Once the player creates a squad, friends can be recruited to form a team of two to four players. Friends will always play together on the same team and battle against other squads at random.

In the new Private Battle mode, friends can play in private, customizable matches. Up to eight friends can fight each other by selecting their map of choice, mode, and weapons. The number of participants ranges from 1v1 to 4v4 but teams will not have to be even, allowing for asymmetrical matches.

It's out on August 6.
