CD Projekt Red is a massive name in the video game industry. You’ve likely been following them for quite a few years now. That’s, of course, of their incredible video game adaptation of The Witcher franchise. While we have had three installments to that series, the studio took a break to deliver Cyberpunk 2077. Unfortunately, Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t much of a hit that The Witcher was.
Despite the flack CD Projekt Red received from Cyberpunk 2077, the studio is pressing on by bringing out The Witcher 4. A new saga is coming, but little to no details have been unveiled yet. There is also the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 fans are waiting on the first major expansion. We haven’t seen any information on that expansion, but we know that there are no intentions of dropping it yet.
Alongside the post revealing The Witcher series is receiving a new release, CD Projekt Red made mention of Cyberpunk 2077. With The Witcher post, the development team noted that the game would use Unreal Engine 5. That’s stepping away from the REDengine. However, while the upcoming installment for The Witcher will use Unreal Engine 5, the studio will keep up with REDengine for the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. That’s at least a sign that the expansion has not been dropped.
Before Cyberpunk 2077 was released, there was an expectation that expansions would be unveiled before the game launched. That, of course, didn’t happen. Instead, after several delays and a very rocky launch, the developers have continued to tweak and provide updates for the game. This ultimately pushed the expansion back further, and it’s left some fans waiting for a new reason to visit Night City once again.
