Half-Life On The Android Smartwatch Is Impractically Awesome

July 24, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

This is starting to look like the modder’s version of Will It Blend, but we don’t mind at all.

Modders are an interesting lot; sometimes they do some questionable things, they’ve taken weapons from one game and put it in another,  and they’ve even made mods so good that they became an official part of the sequel (sort of). A lot of the time they do really cool stuff.

Some modders seem determined to get a beloved game to run on pretty much any system they weren’t originally meant to run on. Doom used to be the guinea pig for such experiments, but it looks like Half-Life is about to give it some competition.

Modder Dave Bennett has managed to run Team Fortress on Android, which is great! Being able to bring your games everywhere is a good thing in our book. Getting a game to run on a smartphone is still fairly practical, if you’re prioritizing mobility. But smart devices are becoming more compact; there are already smart watches on the market. We know what you’re thinking, and yes, Bennett went there. He got Half-Life to run on Android Wear.

This is starting to look like the modder’s version of Will It Blend? Sometimes we just want proof that it will work, impracticality notwithstanding. It runs and it’s playable, if you can deal with the wildly fluctuating framerate and crashes. If you’d like to try this just for kicks, you can check out the tutorial on Dave Bennett’s blog.
