Stranger Of Paradise PC Players Are Having Major Issues

March 17, 2022 by Matt Cook

Another poor launch for Final Fantasy on PC.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins doesn’t technically release until tomorrow, but those who pre-ordered the game on PC can access it today. Unfortunately for those who pre-ordered the game on PC, there look to be some major issues with performance.

PC players on social media have complained of massive frame drops, blurry visuals, and poor render distance even on high-end hardware. For reference, here are the recommended PC requirements for the game. The requirements for 1080p/60 FPS are in the region of a Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX 1660 Super, which is reasonable on paper. However, users with RTX 3080s, RTX 2080 Tis and RTX 3070s are reporting issues.

In one thread on Reddit, the poster is playing with an RTX 3080 and Intel i5 12600k. They report issues with the frame rate dropping from 120 FPS down to “low 40s and 50s” with the game then looking “like you’re playing in slow motion.” They also state there are problems with “awful render distance, tons of pop-in, jagged visuals, aliasing everywhere, and really blurry and washed out image.” Some of those issues will be familiar to console players who tried the demo. Even on PS5, the game looks incredibly blurry and low resolution. Especially in performance mode which drops the resolution in favor of frame rate.

Other players on PC have reported issues of slow down and the huge frame drops mentioned above. One player on Twitter claims to not be able to run the game at 1080p/60 FPS with an RTX 2080 Super and i7 9700k on minimum settings. Despite the recommended requirements being much lower.

The issues with Stranger of Paradise seem to be following a trend for Final Fantasy games on PC. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was released on PC in December to similar issues. The issues were so bad that Digital Foundry recommended playing the game on PS5 instead of PC. It looks like Stranger of Paradise is going to have the same problems. Although in this case, it arguably isn’t much better on consoles.
