NBA 2K16 Licensed 11 Colleges And Then Some

July 21, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

2K has basically swept the rug of these licenses away from EA.

We had some idea that 2K Sports was bringing colleges into NBA 2K16, but not like this. We received this information thanks to a video from Hit The Pass. You can watch their coverage of this story, including their commentary on it, in the video above, and subscribe to them here.

So, we already know about the achievements list that spoiled a college mode of some sorts for NBA 2K16, but what we didn’t know is that 2K Sports directly negotiated with the Collegiate Licensing Company. As a result, 11 college teams are being represented in NBA 2K16, namely, Arizona, Arizona State, Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, Texas, UCLA, UConn, Villanova, and Wisconsin.

On top of that, it seems likely that Davidson, where MVP Stephen Curry played, and Kentucky, where Anthony Davis played, are also joining the game. These two colleges aren’t working with the Collegiate Licensing Company, so we know from this 2K Sports went the extra mile.

In fact, and of course, this is extra astounding considering 2K has basically swept the rug of these licenses away from EA, who can no longer make NCAA games like they used to, and investigated acquiring the college licenses from the Collegiate Licensing Company individually. We’ve written extensively about the reasons for this, but you can get a recap here.

It’s unlikely that you will be able to play a full NCAA season in NBA 2K16, but are you looking forward to playing college teams with your favorite players? How do you hope 2K uses this opportunity? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

NBA 2K16 will be released on September 29, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 3.
