Halo 5 Guardians Collector’s Edition Code Can be Swapped for a Physical Disc

July 17, 2015 by Stephen Daly

You’ll actually be able to use that steelbook for something.

Halo 5: Guardians' Limited Collector's Edition includes all the trappings – including a steelbook case – one might expect of a special version of what's sure to be one of the year's biggest games, with one exception, instead of a physical disc the package contains a code to download the game.

Microsoft and 343 Industries have told Game Informer that those who buy the Limited Collector's Edition will be able to swap their code for a disc and more details on how this will work will be revealed soon.

“The Limited Collector’s Edition will be released on October 20th – a week prior to the official launch date of October 27th for Halo 5: Guardians – and therefore we are including a digital copy of the game so fans will have the benefit of pre-downloading to be ready to play on launch day,” Microsoft commented. “We have heard feedback that some fans prefer a physical disc in the LCE, and we will provide an option for fans to exchange their digital copy for a physical disc at no additional cost. We’ll have details to share soon.”

Swapping the code for the disc will likely be tricky to pull off but at least Microsoft is giving players the option. Given that the Limited Collector's Edition costs $250, this never really should have been necessary, however.

A Collector's Edition is also available for $100 in addition to the standard version of the game for $70.
