Yesterday was a mostly sad day for DC Comics fans. Because almost inexplicably, their 2022 lineup of movies were blasted and rearranged. Black Adam (which was supposed to come out in July) is now coming out in October. The Flash has been pushed back to June (further delaying a film that has been pushed back for years) and then Aquaman, which was set to return to its December date where it got a billion dollars before, is being pushed back three months to March 2023. And while we did get the moving up of Shazam Fury of the Gods to replace Aquaman, fans are still sad about it.
However, one person who is actually grateful for the delay is that of director James Wan. Who posted on Instagram that he is grateful for the extra months to ensure he gets the movie done right:
“Working nonstop, day and night (at least 15 hours each day), on my director’s cut from my home set up,” Wan wrote in the caption. “Thank god for the big desk!”
“For a movie that is nearly all visual effects, I’m thankful for the extra time needed to craft this thing right,” Wan continued in his caption. “Working with groundbreaking new technology, I’m blown away by some of the early tests coming in. I’m cautiously optimistic and excited, and can’t wait to share when the time is ready.”
This response from him might just be the answer that we are looking for. As the movies, Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman might have had a series of major things to work on in post-production, and they didn’t want to rush the final result. So pushing them back as they have gives them the time to ensure that the movies look good.
And as comic fans, we definitely want our comic book movies to look good.
