World of Warcraft Faction Switching Mercenary Mode in Development

July 16, 2015 by Stephen Daly

The mode aims to reduce queue times for battlegrounds.

Blizzard has announced a new faction switching Mercenary Mode feature for World of Warcraft that aims to reduce the queue times for the MMO's player-versus-player arenas.

Mercenary Mode will introduce a new character who'll appear in each of the Ashran region's faction bases during high queue times. If you're finding it difficult to get into a battleground, you can approach this character and simply opt to fight for the opposing faction.

When you do join the battleground, the game will automatically asign you a new race from the opposing faction.

Blizzard introuduced the ability to switch factions for a fee back in 2009 but continues to restrict cross-faction chat and cross-faction teams cannot be formed to take on raids and dungeons.

Mercenary Mode does not currently have a release date but Blizzard says it will be added to the public test realm soon.
