With the success of The Batman in theaters, people are likely going to be interested in seeing how the rest of the DC Comics movies this year do. Next up is Black Adam in July, The Flash in November and then Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December. But, there are other projects already in the works, or ones setup for next year. One of the more interesting ones is that of Blue Beetle. This movie will star Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, a young man who inherits a mysterious blue scarab and becomes a superhero as a result.
The character is very much beloved in the world of DC Comics, and has been featured in animated series like Batman The Brave and the Bold as well as Young Justice.
But now, we might know one of the co-stars of the film, as What We Do In Shadows star Harvey Guillen is apparently in talks to be a part of the movie. Though who he might play in the film is apparently being kept a secret for right now. But given his very well-received role in the vampire comedy series, we’re sure he’ll bring a lot to the part no matter what.
Originally, Blue Beetle was set to debut solely on HBO Max, but then Warner Bros decided to put it in theaters instead. Xolo also noted that his costume has been tried on and that it looks really good. Which is important because his outfit, and his powers, are one of the more elaborate in the DCU.
We don’t know much about the film, not even a release date, though 2023 does seem likely at this point. Many are hoping for this movie to succeed so that other “non-Justice League” characters can get movies of this type. We’ll see!
