Elden Ring Players Not Beating First Boss?

March 8, 2022 by Todd Black

Get Good? Or Find The Boss?

Elden Ring is already getting people on its side to try and win Game of the Year, despite the fact that we’re only a week into March and there are PLENTY of other big name games coming out this year. Regardless, fans and critics (who aren’t playing the PC version apparently…) are in love with this game, and it’s not hard to see why. FromSoftware is a very established and proven company who knows how to make games that work, look beautiful and challenge their games. But the question for this title is…is it challenging them too much?

We ask that because some very interesting stats have come out about Elden Ring. It’s been out for a while on PC and console and yet apparently…65% or less of players have beaten the first boss in Godrick. He is the official first boss to be clear, not “one of many” you could fight first. He’s meant to be the first boss. And yet on Steam, 55% of players have defeated him, and on PlayStation, only about 65% of players have beaten him.

Given that this game has likely sold millions by now, that’s a lot of players on both platforms that haven’t beaten Godrick, but why is that?

Believe it or not, there are many reasons why this could be. The game is praised for its open-world (unlike previous titles from the developer) and so people might just be exploring it to their hearts content. Piggybacking off that, because of the size of the world, and the fact that unlike the Souls games they don’t guide you to the bosses…people might not have found him yet.

And of course, there is the chance that players have gotten to him, but haven’t been able to beat him yet.
Either way, it’s a very fun stat to look at given the nature and praise this game is getting.
