13th Doctor Who To Get “Massive” Exit

March 7, 2022 by Todd Black

A Good Way To Go?

Doctor Who

Doctor Who exploded in popularity with the arrival of what fans know as “NuWho”, when the 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccelston, truly brought the character in the modern age and helped make the show not just enjoyable again, but reach a whole new audience via America and beyond. Fast forward quite a while later, and the current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, is getting ready for her swan song via two more specials, one of which will be her regeneration episode.
Naturally, there are a lot of mixed feelings about this, especially since Jodie has had the least amount of episodes for a Doctor since NuWho began (partly because of the pandemic as you can guess). But executive producer Matt Strevens promised Doctor Who Magazine that this will not be a “simple send-off”, it’ll be huge.

“The final story is a massive, feature-length epic – it was huge to shoot – with lots of surprises for fans of all ages. Jodie gets a really good send-off. I think it will push everybody’s buttons.”

That’s good to hear because a lot of people have enjoyed Jodie’s take on The Doctor, especially since she’s the first female Doctor ever. Fans were a little confused when her “sendoff” was being done via the 5-episode Flux event (which got mixed reviews to put it lightly) and then the 3 special movies, one of which has already come via Eve of the Daleks. But apparently, that was BBC’s idea given the timing of it all:

“When they approached Chris [Chibnall], saying: ‘We’d love you to do one more – we know the production schedule’s really tight, but what do you think about doing a special for the centenary of the BBC?’, it was a no-brainer,” Strevens explained.

Indeed, and hopefully it all works out so that Jodie gets a sendoff that is as good as past Doctor’s.
