Rumor: PlayStation State of Play Set to Air This Month

March 7, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Will we finally be meeting Kratos again?

With a number of major releases coming last month, Sony is gearing up to give players more to look forward to in the year ahead. That’s according to a number of ‘very reliable’ anonymous sources speaking into Gamereactor who claim that a PlayStation State of Play is scheduled for sometime in March. Some even claim that the stream was scheduled for this week, though Sony has been facing calls to delay the broadcast due to the ongoing Ukraine invasion.

“Some developers who are set to show off their games in the show and even some at PlayStation Studios have asked for the show to be delayed because they don’t want to take the spotlight away from the awful stuff happening right now,” the article reads. “This has allegedly led to talks about delaying it a week or two, but at least it sounds like we’ll get some very exciting announcements from PlayStation and its partners before the end of March.”

While the content of the State of Play is not explicitly stated, many are gearing up for more information regarding Fospoken, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the highly-anticipated sequel God of War Ragnarok.

It’s also possible that the reworked PlayStation subscription service could be revealed during the broadcast. Codenamed ‘Project Spartacus,’ the Game Pass competitor is “pretty close to actually launching” according to multiple reports. In an interview last month, leaker NateTheHate claimed that 100 PS1 titles would be available at launch, with PS2 and PSP games being added to the service in late 2022. Venturebeat’s Jeff Grubb also offered more about the price tiers.

“Right now they are called ‘essential’, ‘extra’ and ‘premium.’ The pricing, again could be a placeholder, but the pricing is $10 a month for essential, $13 a month for extra, and $16 a month for premium,” he claimed.

In late February, well-known Bloomberg reporter and insider Jason Schreier noted that God of War Ragnarok would not be delayed again. In response, industry insider @Shpeshal_Nick on Twitter claimed that Sony’s March PlayStation State of Play would be “the good one.” Kratos and Atreus might be making their long-awaited comeback in the next few weeks after all.
