Fallout 4 Gameplay Speculation: New Engines and Combat System

July 13, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The Vertibird and integrated jetpack in the Power Armor shows that the game will have to take verticality into account.

TGN speculates on the engine and combat system for Fallout 4, courtesy of The Gamers Network. You can follow them on YouTube here.

Fallout 3 was filled with loading screens, but that may have been a limitation of the technology available at the time. Today, open world games are a dime a dozen, and the recent trailer hints at much more openness, as you can see through doors and windows. However, it’s not entirely clear if the game will be fully open world, or if it will employ older tricks. Hopefully, loading screens won’t take as long if they remain.

The Vertibird and integrated jetpack in the Power Armor shows that the game will have to take verticality into account. Again, this seems to be a reaction to Fallout 3, which did not have completed roofs even though you could jump to the skies.

In terms of combat, the enemies seem to be fiercer, with new abilities, and Bethesda seems to be adding quick loot, a useful feature.

Lighting looks set to receive an upgrade, as, once again, the Power Armor shows off something new and cool, in this case flashlights. Believe it or not, flashlights don’t even exist in Fallout 3. It was sorely needed then, and it’s expected to be added in now.

Finally, there is a scene in the trailer that shows a member of the Brotherhood of Steel losing armor after being hit by a rocket. So, it seems armor will be breakable in this new game.

Fallout 4 will be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 10, 2015.
