Warcraft, the film based on the Blizzard franchise of the same name, is almost done, says director Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code).
In an interview with i09 at San Diego Comic Con 2015, Jones said, “We have pretty much a finished movie. I have ten VFX shots – under ten VFX shots – which are being finished off right now. They need to be dropped into the movie, but, we’re kind of done.”
While Jones, of course, thinks the movie is going to be good, he also backs up his faith in the film with the opinions of those he trusts and respects who have seen parts of the film.
“I know that it’s good,” Jones said. “I’ve shown it to people that I trust and whose opinions I respect and who are honest with me and they’ve said it’s good, so now I just kind of clench my fists and grit my teeth and wait for everyone else to see it.”
Jones is so confident in the film that he’s already “pretty convinced” that if things go well with the first movie, two sequels may be in order.
“If it goes well,” Jones said, “I am pretty convinced that Chris Metzen from Blizzard and I have a very good idea of what story we could tell in three films, given the opportunity.”
While Jones has been working on Warcraft for years, he is still eager to develop sequels to the first film. However, he also has a “pet project” he would like to make called Mute, which is a sci-fi film he has wanted to make for some time. If he can manage to make Mute before Warcraft is released on June 10, 2016, “then that would give me my little indie I’ve wanted to make and then I would love to jump back into [Warcraft].”
Earlier this year, the public was treated to the first look at one of the film’s characters: Ogrim Doomhammer. That has been the only look at the film so far, aside from test footage shown behind closed doors, but there are rumors that the first official trailer for the film will be released at the film’s San Diego Comic Con panel on Saturday, June 11, 2015.
