FIFA 23 Reported To Be Cross-Platform For The First Time

March 1, 2022 by Matt Cook

This is great news for FIFA fans.

FIFA 23 will be going cross-platform for the first time when it is released this year. That’s according to a new report from reputable leaker Tom Henderson, writing via Xfire. The FIFA series has refrained from crossplay, unlike other franchises even with EA’s catalog. If the new report is true then PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players will be able to play against each other for the first time.

Cross-play has been a long wished for feature among the FIFA community. Currently, each version is separated by platform and generation. Meaning PS4 players can only player fellow PS4 gamers. PS5 is limited to PS5, PC limited to PC, etc. The most popular mode in FIFA is Ultimate Team, where players can build their own teams using any players available in the game. However, the mode has been held back on certain platforms. In order to get new footballers, players need to buy them from the market. Because of different platform player bases that means the market is wildly different between platforms. For example, players are regularly hundreds of thousands or even millions of coins more on PC because of the smaller player base. Essentially giving PC players a second-class experience.

If cross-play brings a unified Ultimate Team market across platforms the experience will be equal for all players on all platforms. It will also make it easier to find players of the same skill level to play against. Especially in highly competitive modes like Weekend League. Hopefully, Tom Henderson’s information is correct and all FIFA players benefit from cross-play later this year.

FIFA 23 still hasn’t been officially announced. EA typically releases new FIFA titles in later September or early October each year. Expect to hear more about the game over the next few months, including an official announcement from EA.
