Star Citizen Dev Opens New Office

July 7, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

Even with (ex) executive producer Alex Mayberry leaving the project, looks like it’s business as usual for Cloud Imperium Games.

Cloud Imperium Games, the developer of the delayed Star Citizen, has just opened a new office in Frankfurt, Germany. This news comes hot on the heels of Alex Mayberry, who has just left the company.

This new office will be managed by CIG’s Manchester-based office, Foundry 42, Ltd. The team will be comprised of engineers, artists, and designers, some of whom had a hand in creating CryEngine, which is the foundation of Star Citizen.

The CIG roster of top game developers is starting to show its capabilities, according to Chris Roberts. “Their experience in working on CryEngine will pay huge dividends for us in the very near future. Some of their contributions are already showing up in in our single player game, Squadron 42, and our first person shooter elements.”

Head count for the Frankfurt Foundry 42 office team currently sits at 21, but is expected to grow to 50 in a few months’ time. Their career opportunities page lists a number of Frankfurt-based openings, as well as openings in the California, Manchester, and Texas offices.

The opening of a new office is indicative that CIG has no intention of shutting down; not anytime soon, anyway. A number of key people have left the company, and backers were starting to wonder what was happening. As far as Cloud Imperium Games is letting on, it’s business as usual.
