Nintendo may already be starting production on the Nintendo NX next year.
Digitimes reports that their supply chain partners have been instructed to prepare for pilot production. Foxconn is their main partner, but Pegatron is apparently also trying to get some contracts. Both companies declined to comment.
Nintendo is also apparently about to order components from their other partners, namely, Macronix, PixArt Imaging, Coxon Precise Industrial, Nishoku Technology, Delta Electronics, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentec. Nintendo apparently hopes to ship 20 million NX units in the first year.
Digitimes is also reporting Nintendo already confirmed NX coming next year, putting some doubt to this rumor, but it’s still worth consideration.
It’s more likely that the pilot batch of NX units, whenever they will be manufactured, will be sent out to third party and indie developers, rather than be released immediately. A prior report indicated that Nintendo just previewed NX to third parties this E3. While they received positive buzz from it, this would also mean that third parties still haven’t gotten their hands on it, but Nintendo may have already gauged demand for developer units.
