Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Will Run In 30 FPS, Confirms Naughty Dog

July 2, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

If these sound familiar to you, it’s because Naughty Dog said similar things about adding a 30 FPS lock toThe Last of Us Remastered.

Naughty Dog has confirmed that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be running at 1080p, 30 FPS on PlayStation 4.

Designers Anthony Newman had this to say about the choice:

We had a really long, involved conversation about it with all the leads and directors. We just realized that, for the game we wanted to make, to make the best game possible, 30FPS (sic) was just something that we had to do.

If these sound familiar to you, it’s because Naughty Dog said similar things about adding a 30 FPS lock toThe Last of Us Remastered. In Naughty Dog’s defense, they were proven right in the case of the latter, as choosing to do this lead to higher quality shadows. You can see an independent examination of The Last of Us Remastered under the 30 FPS lock vs 60 FPS here.

If you were hoping Sony would have a major title like Uncharted in 60 FPS, this won’t be it, but perhaps even if it was possible to raise the game’s overall specs with consistent quality and push the PlayStation 4 to the limit, Naughty Dog decided that it just wasn’t worth the extra effort. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, of course, has been delayed enough as it is, and fans are unanimously happy with the E3 demo as it is.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be releasing exclusively on PlayStation 4 in the first half of 2016.
