Super Meat Boy Developers Won’t Work With Microsoft “Ever Again”

September 13, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Team Meat complained about their experience with Microsoft and its lack of support for their indie title.

Edmund McMillen says that he may never want to work with Microsoft ever again, because of how Team Meat and its title, Super Meat Boy, was mistreated by the company on its XBLA platform.

Team Meat released Super Meat Boy on Microsoft's XBLA platform on October 2010 and on Steam the following month.

"I don't think we'll work with them ever again," said McMillen on an Indie Games podcast, who complained that Microsoft refused to ever put the game on a discounted sale.

"Whenever we ask, and we actively ask monthly if we can be included in a sale or any kind of promotion, they say no."

Tommy Refenes, also of Team Meat, echoed McMillen and added that Steam was a much better platform in comparison. "Steam is a fucking powerhouse," he said.

It's clear that Microsoft enjoys the company of indie developers for the reputation it gives them, but the relationship doesn't go any deeper than that.
