Confirmed: Black Ops 3 Safehouse and New Social System

June 29, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

Safehouse is a campaign-only feature, but the new social system lets you bring your friends everywhere in-game.

A few months ago, we weren’t sure about certain things being included in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Some folks got creative and put two and two together, and came up with some fairly solid-sounding stuff, but now we’ve got confirmation of two things: the Safehouse, and a new social system layer.

The Safehouse is a space where players can tinker with character customization, upgrade and personalize weapons, and check on their stats. This sounds like a social space, so why the need for another social system? Treyarch Studios has confirmed on Twitter that the Safehouse and the social system are two separate things.

Contrary to some reports we’ve seen, Safe House is a Campaign-only feature. #BlackOps3

That leaves us with two other modes that people also enjoy playing: Multiplayer and Zombies. “When we looked at data from Black Ops 2, we discovered that people were playing multiple game modes in a single session, and we realised we had to make that easier, especially now we have a co-op experience," said studio head Mark Lamia in an interview with Edge magazine. "We’re architecting our own social system layer that’s going to arc over all three of the modes."

The new social system layer integrates all three game modes in such a way that will allow players to hop from one mode to another, almost as if it’s a three-in-one game. And it’s not just the individual player. Players may choose to bring their entire party as well. Go from multiplayer to campaign to zombies, Treyarch wants you to experience all the modes and play the way you want. There shouldn’t be any blockades to stop you.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is scheduled to launch on November 6, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One; PS4 players will get the DLC ahead. A beta will be available come Gamescom this September.
