Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Offer Skill-based Matchmaking

September 12, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

The upcoming Counter-Strike title for the XBLA will feature skill-based matchmaking and a new casual mode for new gamers.

Counter-Strike is a name that will bring back a flood of memories to any gamer who was active during the early days of the Half-Life modding scene, as well as anyone who participated in the competitive scene a year or two later.

Valve's Counter-Strike Source might not have been the sequel everyone was hoping for, but that hasn't stopped me from being any less enthusiastic about Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Free from the confines of the PC, the game will be making its way to the Xbox 360 to cater to a much larger console audience.

Recently released details reveal that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be using a matchmaking system not unlike that of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and the Halo titles. Instead of joining a random server to be pitted against opponents of various skill levels, players will instead be assigned to play against others of similar skill level. Additionally, the game will also feature a Casual Mode, allowing players to have an unlimited supply of cash to purchase whichever weapons and items they prefer at the start of every round.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is set for an XBLA release in 2012.
