Bungie Apologizes: Destiny: The Taken King Changes are Coming due to Complaints

June 24, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

You voiced your complaints, and Bungie is listening.

Gamers expressed their objections to the pricing scheme of Destiny: The Taken King's Collector's Edition, as I detailed in an editorial a few days ago. In addition to complaints over the existing pricing scheme, many were displeased by Bungie's announcement earlier today that they were teaming up with beverage company Red Bull to provide XP boosts—an announcement which could not have come at a worse time.

As a result of these complaints, Bungie has announced that it is working diligently to address each of the issues raised over the Collector's Edition, and is "focused on creating solutions."

"In moments like these, actions speak louder than words," says Bungie, which shared words from Creative Director Luke Smith, whose now-infamous interiew quoted him as saying, "If I fired up a video right now and showed you the emotes you would throw money at the screen."

Reading my interview with Eurogamer and imagining it came from some random developer of a game I love – that random developer looks like an Asshat.

But that Asshat was me – and those words rightfully anger you.

I'm sorry.

To address the complaints, Bungie is working to make the digital content from the Collector's Edition available for $20 as an upgrade bundle, available on September 15. You will be able to purchase the digital items provided you have a standalone version of Destiny: The Taken King, or the Legendary Edition of the game.

Additionally, if you purchased the existing Digital Collector's Edition and already own Destiny and both its expansions, the studio will have more information soon.

The players have spoken, and it looks like Bungie has listened.
