Gears of War Judgment Developer No Longer Owned by Epic

June 24, 2015 by Stephen Daly

People Can Fly has ‘returned to local leadership’.

People Can Fly has split away from parent company Epic Games, a press release issued today revealed.

The Polish developer behind Gears of War Judgment, Bulletstorm, and the Painkiller franchise has been known as Epic Games Poland since 2013 but today the studio announced it has "returned to local leadership".

"We, as a People Can Fly team, are extremely excited about new possibilities ahead of us," studio director Sebastian Wojciechowski commented. "We're going to work on a new game, while continuing to partner with Epic and use Unreal Engine 4."

The statement says Epic Games, based in North Carolina, supports the transition back to Warsaw-based control. People Can Fly will continue to aid development of Epic's upcoming title Fortnite.

At the time of writing, neither People Can Fly nor Epic Games have made clear quite why or how this transition is happening however.

Epic Games made a majority investment in People Can Fly in 2007. On the same day in 2013 that the studio became Epic Games Poland, founder Adrian Chmielarz departed the company for a new venture called The Astronauts which has since released The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
