The Evil Within is Now Playable in Full Screen Mode

June 23, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Play The Evil Within without the annoying letterbox.

Bethesda has put out a patch for all versions of The Evil Within that gets rid of the game's highly criticized letterbox format, which made the game look very claustrophobic, even on larger displays.

The game's lead developer Shinji Mikami said it was his intention to present the game in a letterbox format whether you liked it or not. PC gamers have been able to mod out the letterbox display, which resulted in a few bugs showing up as subtitle text got cut off.

Thankfully, the new patch has been fully QA'd and shouldn't have similar problems. To disable letterboxing, simply head into the game's settings and disable it there to play in full screen mode.

Additionally, the game's casual difficulty mode has been rebalanced to be more forgiving to players by offering increased ammo counts and adjustments to the game's health bar.

Better late than never, I suppose.
