E3 2015: Nintendo Announces Amiibo/Skylanders Mashup

June 16, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Twisting the base of the figure will switch between “amiibo” and “Skylanders.”

During Nintendo’s E3 2015 digital event, the company announced a partnership with Activision and its Skylanders team to reveal a pair of amiibo/Skylanders hybrid figures today.

The two figures announced during the event are Turbo-Charged Donkey Kong and his Barrel Blaster vehicle, as well as Hammer Slam Bowser and his Clown Cruiser vehicle. The two figures will be playable in Skylanders Superchargers, as well as undetermined Nintendo games and can switch function between the two properties by twisting the bottom of the figure to alternate between “amiibo” and “Skylanders.”

This announcement was prefaced with president of Nintendo of America saying that with amiibo, the company is always hoping to have "more games for [amiibo] to inhabit," suggesting even further commitment to the line of toy figures.
