Doom Multiplayer Preview:Doom SnapMap And Other Unholy Powers

June 14, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The game will play a lot like Quake, with some elements that are uniquely Doom.

Bethesda unveiled multiplayer for the new reboot of Doom in their 1st E3 presentation. The game will be a lot like Quake, with some very powerful mod and community tools.

The game is built on IDtech 6, and much like single player, multiplayer will let you play in the Mars UAV research facilities all the way to Hell, and anywhere in between. However, the experience will be much different.

Based on the preview we have seen so far, there are graphic deaths when you shoot another player, but it does not seem like you can dismember them. Gameplay is basic arena style gameplay, with teams of two getting the freedom to jump and move around the map.

While you can’t get the verticality you could in a game like Quake, it’s very reminiscent of Quake. Movement is fast and vertical and there are unique powerups. Game modes include Domination, Freeze Tag, Clan Arena, and more.

In the multiplayer preview, we got a brief look at an interesting gameplay element that you would never find in Quake. A player literally hexes himself to pick up the rocketpack from one of Hell’s denizens, giving him infinite hangtime and unworldly powers.

And now, for the real treat. Doom SnapMap is a powerful new customization tool that will allow Doom players to share their content instantly with other fans online. It is a map editor, but it offers more customization options than the average mod tool. You can even edit the game logic so you can create your own game modes.

On top of this, Bethesda revealed Bethesda.net, a new platform that hosts mods for all Bethesda titles. It will also serve as the company’s new community hub for all their games.

Doom will be releasing Spring 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
