Metal Gear Rising 2 Confirmed Not In This Year’s E3, Platinum Working On Transformer Devastation

June 14, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Hideo Kojima himself will not be at E3.

Were you holding out for a Metal Gear Rising 2 announcement this E3? You may want to sit down for this one.

I can confirm now "No MGR2" sorry. https://t.co/ZIGZjWWVSh

I was trying to say there is no MGR announcement at e3. I can't tell future plan. https://t.co/dTbO0R1nuX

Konami senior producer Ken-ichiro Imaizumi has confirmed on Twitter that there will be no such announcement planned for E3. This does not disqualify the possibility of such a game being greenlit and releasing in the future. It just was not in the cards for now.

In fact, based on this secondhand info, Hideo Kojima himself will not be at E3 either. Kojima’s upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, is scheduled to have a six minute trailer at the YouTube E3 livestream. It’s sadly entirely possible that this is the extent of the game’s presence for E3.

As for Platinum Games, it was confirmed a few hours after Transformers: Devastation was revealed that they are, in fact, the game’s developers. Platinum had been teasing fans with references to their popular past games, but of course, this was just Platinum joking with the fans. It’s not impossible that Platinum has another project to announce, but chances are more likely they only have Transformers: Devastation and Scalebound for the near future.

Teases for Metal Gear Rising 2 date to the Taiwan Game Show last February, but given the situation within Konami, it is possible that the game was in the works, and then silently canned without an official announcement.
