Driver: San Francisco Won’t Need Online Pass on PS3, 360

September 7, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Due to a printing error with registration keys, Driver: San Francisco’s online pass will be free for owners of the game.

Following a printing error for Driver: San Francisco, Ubisoft has announced that anyone who purchased the game on the console—be it on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3—will not need to deal with the company's Uplay Passport.

Joystiq reports that numerous Xbox 360 copies of the game contained incomplete codes, which prevented players from being able to play the game online without having to pay $10 to attain the pass. To be fair to its customers, Ubisoft is making it so that the the "Purchase Uplay Passport" option, which normally costs $10, will be available for free to everyone when presented with the option.

This doesn't negate the fact that players on the PC will still have to deal with the game's obtrusive DRM system, which recently faced criticism during the release of From Dust. The outcry from dissatisfied customers prompted the company to issue full refunds to anyone who purchased the game from Steam.

Ubisoft has since announced its plan to remove the DRM in its entirety sometime in the near future, perhaps hoping to earn back some of the goodwill it lost during the debacle.

Thanks Joystiq.
