Background Music on Xbox One to Come After Windows 10 Integration

May 29, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Users will have to snap Xbox Music in the meantime.

Background music on Xbox One won’t be coming to the console until after Windows 10 integration with Xbox One is released, head of Xbox Phil Spencer said on Twitter today.

“We have to land [Windows 10] on [Xbox One] before we'll get background music,” Spencer wrote, “so a little later.”

Spencer also shed light on when said Windows 10 integration with Xbox One would be made available. Responding to someone on Twitter asking when the “Xbox One Windows 10 beta” will be available, Spencer said, “It will be post-summer.”

Currently, users are able to listen to music on their Xbox One while they play games, but it must be done by using the “snap” feature and snapping Xbox Music. This, as with the snapping of any application, causes the music application to take up a portion of the screen.

An Xbox feedback forum thread currently has more than 19,000 votes to bring background music to the Xbox One.

Microsoft’s 90-minute E3 press conference will be held on June 15 at 12:30 p.m. ET where Microsoft plans to unveil a new IP. Microsoft will also be holding Xbox FanFest, a five-day event with parties, celebreties, meet-and-greets with developers, and more.
