Arkham Knight: New Episode of Arkham Insider Showcases Batmobile

May 29, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Plus, a surprise appearance by John Noble.

In the fourth episode of Arkham Insider, Batman: Arkham Knight game director Sefton Hill details some of the ways in which players will be able to use the Batmobile, a Riddler Race is shown off, and Rocksteady social marketing manager Gaz Deaves takes questions from fans for Hill.

“The one thing we hadn’t really had a chance to do was deliver the keys to this amazing vehicle,” Hill says, “to give the player the freedom of Gotham City.”

Hill went on to detail certain peripherals of the Batmobile like the power hitch, which can be used to pull down objects or send power (re: electricity) to objects, and the immobilizer missiles, which Batman can use “in pursuit mode” to disable other vehicles. (Presumably, immobilizer missiles will not be feature-locked to “pursuit mode”). The most widely-used feature of the Batmobile in the video is the omnidirectional tires, which allow the Batmobile to move in any direction at any time without physically rotating the vehicle.

Sitting down with senior designer Adam Jones and senior environment artist Jody Sargent, brand marketing producer Dax Ginn shows off a Riddler Race (yet another addition to the ways in which The Riddler will attempt to test your abilities). A Riddler Race, as one might expect, incorporates a challenge to Batman that must be accomplished with the Batmobile in order to collect some of the 243 Riddler Trophies present in Arkham Knight.

Closing out the episode, Deaves took questions from fans for Hill in which Hill confirmed that all of the cinematics in Arkham Knight will be rendered in real time, which allows any alternate costume choices to also carry over into cutscenes.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be available June 23, 2015 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
