Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Will Not Have a Companion App

May 28, 2015 by Stephen Daly

But how will we open chests?

Assassin's Creed Syndicate will not feature a companion app, publisher Ubisoft has confirmed to Eurogamer.

This will be the first Assassin's Creed game in several years not to feature a connected mobile experience. Unity, last year's game, initially locked treasure chests and costumes behind hours of app use. Ubisoft eventually opened chests in the game regardless of whether or not players had used the app. Players were able to complete missions around Paris with a team of upgradable Assassins.

The app resulted in a cluttered game map and left many players unable to open the significant number of locked chests placed around the city.

2013's Black Flag also featured a companion app through which players could earn virtual currency and resources in Kenway's Fleet activities.

Ubisoft made no mention of a companion app in Syndicate's official announcement, and has now confirmed that there won't be one.

"There will not be a companion app," a Ubisoft spokesperson commented. "For Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the team wanted to focus all their efforts on the core experience."

For the first time since 2010's Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Syndicate will not feature any multiplayer – either competitive or a continuation of the co-operative gameplay seen in Unity – and will be an entirely single player experience.
