Project CARS Dev Admits To Dev Issues On Wii U

May 25, 2015

Looks like Project CARS has run into a road block.

Project CARS was released earlier this month on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The project has been in the works for a while, but there’s still no significant updates on the WiiU release of the game. Slightly Mad Studios head Ian Bell has admitted that they’re having a little trouble wrapping the game up for the WiiU.

As it is, the WiiU is not as powerful as the other platforms that the game has been released on. SMS is struggling to get it off the ground, but so far, they’ve only got it running at 23fps on 720p. In the past, developers have been able to hit at least 60fps. If they’re unable to achieve that, then it looks like they’re going to need a little more time to work on it.

Expectations are a little high for the WiiU release, and the delay has not helped this any. Slightly Mad might have put themselves in that situation by promising Gamepad specific and other features, but now failing to deliver. It looks like they didn’t make the game with lower-specs consoles in mind (leading to the cancellation of the releases for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), further disappointing backers, many of whom funded the project specifically for WiiU. Bell admitted that they’re hoping for a hardware announcement on Nintendo’s end come E3, but that’s still up in the air at this time.

Back in December 2013, Slightly Mad Studios  stated that the WiiU version of Project CARS was looking very promising. It was meant to rival the likes of Gran Turismo and Forza, but the way things are looking, Project CARS might be in last place.
