PlayStation Certified Tablets S and P Detailed, Dated

September 1, 2011 by Gameranx Staff

Sony has revealed more details on their PlayStation certified tablets S and P.

Sony has revealed additional details on their PlayStation certified tablets, including the release window for the device.

Tablet S features one screen and 16 or 32GB of storage when it'll be released this month in North American retailers. Its price tag will be $499. Tablet P, meanwhile, delivers two 5.5" display screens which are attached together. Both S and P tablets will sport the Nvdia Tegra 2 chip architecture, dual cameras, as well as the devices having Google's Android running as the preffered operating system.

Several services which are present on the PlayStation 3 including video services such as Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited will be included. Additionally, both tablets will be able to play games – firstly, via the Android marketplace and run  from the Android approved PSOne titles. The two tablets will be released with PSOne games Pinball Heroes and Crash Bandicoot.

Sony's Tablet P will arrive in Europe in the following months in November. The North American launch schedule for the tablet has yet to be unveiled.

The platform holder is certainly taking a gamble entering the tablet market. Ever since Apple iPad's inception, the device has dominated the share of the now-packed market. Due to this, other companies wanted a piece of the pie so BlackBerry brought out their Playbook which failed to make an impression in addition to countless others. Sony, therefore, are entering a market which can't be cracked easily due to Apple's products but with the inclusion of PlayStation-certified games it's certainly a more intriguing option than the other tablets.
